Weekend in Highlands

Our entire family hasn't been to Highlands in years. James doesn't even remember the house it's been so long! We spent President's Day weekend in the mountains with one of our favorite families, the Myers.

Janie and Adelyn are just a few weeks a part and always get along so well. The Myers stopped in Cashiers and picked up pizza. We just chilled Friday night and tucked into bed early!
Can't complain about this view early in the morning!
On Saturday we went for a nice hike.
Mr. Brooks is a total cutie!

Laura and I
This was Brooks's first time hiking in the backpack. He did great! And so did Mel, as there were lots of fallen trees to duck under or climb over!
After the hike we stopped for lunch at Mountain Fresh Grocery. The guys took the kids home while Laura and I shopped on Main Street :)
We cooked steaks and enjoyed a great dinner Saturday night
I made this fun wine label to celebrate the weekend!
Laura brought me a belated birthday cupcake
Then we played Shut Yo Mouth
Hilarious!
I had a severe drooling problem and really stunk at the game. I put on Brooks's bib to save my shirt.
Mel was drool free and you could understand him. Impressive!
The kids explored Sunday morning while Seth and I loaded the car up
Such a pretty view!

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away with great friends.

February randomness

February has been a busy month!

My mom came in town for over a week. The kids were SO excited to "beanboozle" her. I think she got rotten egg?
We have TONS and TONS of pecans in our yard. I have never seen our pecan trees produce so many! We spent lots of time shelling them in front of the tv at night.
Yummy dinner in the dining room!
Friday February 10th was my birthday. My dad came into town that evening. Seth and I had dinner reservations at Little Alley Steakhouse in Roswell. We spent the night down there and had a great evening with friends!
Our crew (this table is the bulk of our Life Group)

Saturday night was the Daddy/Daughter dance at Adelyn's school. My parents, James, and I hit up Stars and Strikes for some video games and then dinner at Tam's Tupelo.
James had a little Valentine's party at school
Unfortunately, Valentine's Day didn't end so well. James had a super crash on his bike. He was racing Thomas (who was running). I have never seen James so confident on his bike. He had finally mastered going downhill and breaking. He was going SO fast! Just as I was shouting out, "James, SLOW DOWN!", he fell..... face first on the concrete.
We were certain he needed stitches in his chin. I called CHOA and they don't do stitches at the Forsyth campus (seriously?!). The nurse said not to wait until the morning, as they won't do stitches after 8 hours (infection risk).  I didn't want to take him to Urgent Care because it's his face! I want a good doctor doing stitches. So, off to the ER we went.
Poor guy.
After 3 nurses looked at his face to determine what to do, they decided to glue his forehead and just put steri-strips on his chin (it was a big cut and stitches would scab over and glue wouldn't hold it). Really? I just went to the ER for band-aids???!!! World's.Most. Expensive.BandAid. EVER.
Seth stayed home with Adelyn and they prepared a cheese and chocolate fondue dinner. It was a yummy treat!
Our crazy life :)
On President's Day, we hiked Sawnee Mountain with the cousins
Adelyn had a friend spend the night. The warm February weather made the jonquils bloom early
Cutie pie has had some trouble going to sleep every night. He's talking into the monitor about a birthday present for Seth (in October!)
James is reading so well! Adelyn leaves at 7:20 and James leaves 30 minutes later. We have one on one time to read each morning.
I had lunch with Adelyn
James graduated to a new belt. Now he's advanced gold (gold with a black stripe) :)
Adelyn had a piano recital. She did great!

Grandma works with Adelyn each week on her piano.

Let's see what March brings!

Adelyn's Valentine's Party

Adelyn is at a new school this year and is always wanting to play with the new friends she made. The trouble is, I don't know these girls or their moms. So we decided to host a Valentine's party on February 4th to get to know them. We also invited her "old" friends and ended up having 16 girls come over to decorate cookies, craft, and play games. It was so much fun!

We set up a little photo booth and had fun playing in it before the guests arrived. My mom was in town for a week and was a HUGE help for this party!

Love, love, love my family!

Food was simple- goldfish, yogurt dipped pretzels with sprinkles, and fruit (strawberries, raspberries, and purple grapes) with pink lemonade

As the girls arrived, they did the photo booth

More cuties

Next they decorated cookies with icing and sprinkles

James's teacher is an amazing baker. She baked 2 dozen heart shaped cookies and made her famous icing. The girls really took their time creating their cookie masterpieces

Yum!

After the cookies, they were free to do the other activites. I set up the kitchen table with paper, foam hearts, paper heart masks to decorate, stickers galore, colored pencils, crayons, and markers. They were free to do whatever!

Minute to Win It: How many candy hearts can you transfer using chopsticks?

Crafty girls

Of course, they played upstairs in her room and playroom
It ended with a Dance Party (after we played musical hearts). These girls loved the Trolls Soundtrack!

This was such a fun party! After it was over, Adelyn said, "You're the best mommy" and that made it all worth it. I don't think I could attempt this with 16 boys! These girls were so well mannered and easy to have over. I'm so thankful Adelyn has these friends!
